Between 2001 and 2010 a total of 4,099 Lamborghini Murciélago left the factory gates in Sant’Agata, I can imagine many of those have been lost over the last 15 years due to accidents, and with values of the Murciélago only recently rising, rebuilding a basic coupe wouldn’t be worth it, but when you talk about a manual LP640 or one of the rare Murciélago SV, most of those are still in decent to good shape nowadays.

If you take an early Murciélago 6.2 or even an e-Gear Murciélago LP640, you might not consider those to be very rare; there are nearly 1,500 units of the 6.2 version, and 1,250 units of the later LP640 upgrade, so that’s about 2,750 cars to choose from when it comes to modifying or tuning it, and that’s exactly what Liberty Walk has been doing for years.

Liberty Walk, LB-Works, LB Performance, all names that are being used by Kato-san, a Japanese car fanatic who has been building wide-body, low-riding supercars since 1995, and when it comes to the Lamborghini Murciélago, it started with the T-02 kit in 2009, probably the least impressive one for the Murciélago from Kato-san, it tried to mimic the looks of the Lamborghini Super Veloce with an aero kit for the basic 6.2 model, it made the original Murciélago look a lot more aggressive.

But things changed considerably with the unveiling of the Liberty Walk LB-R Limited Works Murciélago at the 2012 SEMA show in the United States, finished in a brushed aluminum look, this low-riding Lamborghini Murciélago came with massive wheel arch extensions, riveted onto the original body panels in true Kato-san style, but this would become a very exclusive kit, in the end only 20 units were ever produced, I managed to find a nice pink metallic scale model of it, which does also exist in real life.

Fast forward to 2023, when Liberty Walk announced yet another modification option for the Lamborghini Murciélago, now called the LB-Silhouette WORKS Murciélago GT Evo. LB-Silhouette has been reserved for some of the most aggressive, race-track-inspired aero packages from Liberty Walk, and they include an almost complete vehicle modification; not many parts of the original car remain once these LB-Silhouette kits have been fitted. When it comes to Lamborghini, they are available for the Lamborghini Huracan and the Lamborghini Aventador at the time of writing.

So what does it take to convert your factory original Lamborghini Murciélago into this impressive-looking LB-Silhouette WORKS GT Evo? The entire body kit will set you back nearly $50,000 in 2025, and while you might like the lightweight carbon fiber, this kit is only available in FRP and consists of a replacement front bumper, front canards, front bumper fog lights, replacement front fenders, massively deep side skirts, widened rear fenders, a replacement rear bumper, new rear lower diffuser, a Ferrari F40 look-alike rear wing, a new front hood, a completely different engine cover with vertical fin, replacement tail lights and to finish the look completely, new exhaust tips.

Do keep in mind you are considerably widening the factory original Lamborghini Murciélago, so you’ll need a much wider set of wheels, and an air-ride suspension might be a great idea too, and for good measure just add a different exhaust system to match the sound of the screaming V12 to the aggressive looks of this street-legal race car, because let’s face it, this looks more like a Le Mans version of the Murciélago than the R-GT or R-SV ever looked.

So how about a scale model of the LB-Silhouette WORKS Murciélago GT Evo? As far as I know, only VIP Scale Models offers a 1/18 scale version of this impressive Lamborghini, I know there is a 1/64 scale announced by Mini-GT, and that might also mean TSM will release a 1/18 version, perhaps even GT-Spirit in the future, but for now it’s just VIP Scale Models, and with their MSRP of €399, these aren’t cheap, and if I’m honest, it’s too expensive.

I currently have three VIP Scale Models in my collection, the Lamborghini Countach LB-Works, which cost me €399, but I also own the LB-Works Urus and this Murciélago GT Evo now, and after receiving the Countach in September of 2024 I quickly realised a few quircks on it, for that kind of money I wasn’t expecting sealed grilles and a rather plain, not highly detailed interior. Sure, the packaging and presentation looked the part, but the execution just wasn’t there for €399, so when I saw the LB-Works Urus being listed for €399, I just waited it out, and I was right, prices went down, as far as €260 before I bought it.

And I did the same with this new Murciélago from VIP Scale Models, initially it was listed for €409, and while I really wanted to add the fighter grey version, by the time prices came down, that spec was sold out, only 99 units of each color are built in the end, so I went for this bright yellow metallic version, it got discounted to €244 mind you, and it turned out this was the spec to get, as this is an exact replica of the actual demo car from Liberty Walk in Japan, down to the license plate and everything.

Now, don’t get me wrong, this is a very nice model, I just don’t think it’s worth €399 when you look really close, there are still sealed grilles being used, there are a few dust speckles in the paint, while I have to say the pearl metallic yellow is very nicely applied, nonetheless, no complaints there, but some of the matt black details are a bit sloppy here and there.

The biggest disappointment for me is the interior. First, the good part, the seats are nice, they are the sport seats, also seen inside the Reventon and Super Veloce, and there are multi-point seat belts fitted. The steering wheel looks nice, and the red shifter paddles are a nice touch, and they you notice the central console. The carbon fiber decal isn’t applied flawlessly, now, I probably couldn’t do a better job, but on a hand-built €399 model, you expect it to be near perfect. But the worst are the printed details for the electric window switches and push buttons on the central console ... that just looks cheap.

So that’s my opinion on this model, I’m really happy to have been able to add it to my collection, especially at that discounted price, because at €399 I just don’t think it’s worth it, even if it’s limited to just 99 units worldwide, VIP Scale Models should really up their game when it comes to grilles and interiors, if they just give some more attention to the fine details, these will indeed be worth their asking price, but for now, I’ll keep waiting for them to be discounted before adding another one.
