About 20 years ago, AUTOart released the 1/18 scale model of the Lamborghini Diablo GTR as an all-opening diecast model, and it looked great, they did have a small issue with the side sills on both the yellow and the black version, but the orange one, the third shade released, was just about perfect from the start.

The Lamborghini Diablo GTR was the track-only version of the road going Diablo GT, the latter only saw 80 units being built for the public (in fact 82 were made in the end), while the Diablo GTR had an even more limited production run of just 30 units, and these were entered into the Lamborghini Supertrophy race series, organized by the Stephane Ratel Racing Organisation.

The Diablo GTR was unveiled at the Bologna Motor Show in late 1999, with availability for racing in the 2000 season. Each unit was priced at US $310,000, which was just $10,000 more than the Diablo GT road car, the press release car was finished in Superfly Yellow, a popular color on the Diablo series in the Nineties, and it is this color found on the AUTOart model presented here.

This AUTOart model had item number 74521, but this one is the second release, with the corrected side air intakes in front of the wheels, note that the first release, with the wrong intakes, had the same item number, so make sure to check out which model you are adding to the collection if you are looking.

Despite being about 2 decades old, this AUTOart Lamborghini Diablo GTR is a beautiful model, with very nice details, both inside and outside, so I didn't hesitate to add all three colors to my collection, with both the first release on the Giallo and Nero, and the second, corrected release on these two shades, with the Arancio being the final color AUTOart released.

But in late 2025 AUTOart is going to release the Lamborghini Diablo GTR again, this time as a composite model, and in two additional shades, Monterey Blue and Impact White, but also in Arancio Ishtar, Deep Black, and Superfly Yellow, exactly the three shades they released on the original diecast model from 2003.
