I sometimes wonder how a marketing department for a large-scale model car company works, especially when I see an announcement from AUTOart stating they are set to release the Lamborghini Diablo GTR in 2025. Don’t you remember that you actually made that exact car many years ago as a die-cast, or isn’t anyone from the early days still at this executive level?

If you would release the same model again, but with new colors, I could see where that comes from, but from the five announced colors, three are the same as the old release, so why make such a big investment into developing an almost identical model as a composite, when you have an already very nice diecast that’s still widely available on the second-hand market?

AUTOart released the Lamborghini Diablo SVR race car back in October 2022, and that was a very nice option to add to the collection. And many collectors were expecting them to do a new production run of the Diablo SV street car after that, as most of the development and tooling was already done with the Diablo SVR, but instead, AUTOart went with the Diablo GTR, albeit adding two new colors into the mix, but still, I highly doubt this new release of the GTR will sell out any time soon.

But then I started to compare this new release to the older die-cast ones I also have in my collection, I was actually planning to add only the two new colors, Impact White and Blu Monterey, but I started noticing both the Giallo and this Arancio were quite different from the old release, this new Arancio Ishtar is a very different hue of orange compared to the first release, which looked more like Arancio Atlas to me, and get this, when you look at the 30 production units of the Lamborghini Diablo GTR in real life, the factory actually delivered different hues of orange to Lease Plan for the 2001 Lamborghini Supertrophy racing season.

So in the end I got all five shades on this new release from AUTOart, and I have to admit, the black one would be the least interesting for me, the old release (if you get the one with the correct side sills) is already more than good enough to have in the collection, there is absolutely no reason to replace it with the new release, but when it comes to the four other shades, there is something to be said about adding them anyway if you are an avid collector.
