Finally, the Bburago 1/18 scale Lamborghini Temerario arrived. I ordered both the Blu Marinus and this Viola one months ago, after the initial appearance on the online webshop I tend to use these days, I also have the orange one on order, but for some strange reason, it hadn’t arrived in the EU yet at the time of receiving these two Bburago models.
I have seen several photos of the Blu Marinus one, which should look a lot like the official press release version Automobili Lamborghini SpA used, despite not having a brown interior, but I wanted to take a closer look at this purple version first, which I think is meant to be Viola Pasifae, a rather popular color on recent Lamborghini models in real life.
I have to admit I also own the MR version of the Lamborghini Temerario, in Blu Marinus and Verde Mercurio, the latter with the optional Alleggerita Package, these two shades were the official presentation color combinations, but I was pleasantly surprised that Bburago released this Viola Pasifae version, which happens to be listed on the Carmodel.com website as an exclusive to them, so naturally I had to add it to the collection.
The Lamborghini Temerario is the successor to the Huracan, I suppose we all know that by now, and unlike the Huracan’s V10 engine, the Temerario comes with a turbocharged V8 engine that can rev up to a screaming 10,000 rpm, add the three electric motors (it had to be a hybrid of course), and the total power output is 907 hp, not bad for the new ‘Baby Lambo’ I guess.
The styling of the new Lamborghini Temerario isn’t received unanymously positive I have to admit, some really don’t like it, but remember when the Huracan was introduced back in 2014, it didn’t receive a warm welcome either, people don’t like change it seems, and we have to admit the Temerario does look futuristic, but is it a true Lamborghini as a design?
For me personally, I love the rear, the exposed rear tires look very impressive. I do think you’ll need some serious PPF to protect the paint from rocks and debris shot upward from those 325/30 R 21 rubber monsters, the diffuser looks mean with those vertical fins, and I rather like that additional light low down in the middle, underneath a pair of menacing-looking exhausts high up between the taillights.
The side profile is typical Lamborghini with one swooping like from front to rear, with a small, integrated rear wing and a partially exposed engine bay for onlookers to admire, and with such a powerplant in that mid-engine position, you just need large air intakes, both behind the doors in front of the rear wheels, and on top of the rear shoulders, but there is a third intake behind the side windows too, just to make sure the V8 has enough cool air to function at the top of it’s power.
And then we get to the front, and this is where Lamborghini lost me, I know it’s all about hexagons from Lamborghini lately, and the large Y-shaped daylight LED is used on the Revuelto already, but those big hexagon in the lower front bumper just don’t look good to me, sorry. The thin headlights set deep underneath the front hood are fine, and if you look really close, you’ll notice there is an opening for airflow in the bumper, in front of the headlights ... but still, the front just doesn’t persuade me right now.
So, how about this 1/18 scale Bburago model? Does it mimic the real-life Lamborghini Temerario enough to earn a spot in your collection? I would say yes, but mainly because of the rather low price and the fact that we don’t have another manufactures yet that released the Temerario as an opening model, the MR is a sealed resin model, on a much higher level, but also about ten times as expensive, so it better be a much nicer model, despite the fact you can’t open any doors or hoods.
I do have to mention one thing, I also have the satin blue version from Bburago, and upon first glance, it looks better than this purple one, don’t get me wrong, the color of this Viola Pasifae Lamborghini Temerario looks absolutely gorgeous, but the application of the paint just isn’t that good ... on every edge you notice there isn’t enough paint to cover the metal underneath, even the fuel door and the cover for the charging port are surrounded by a light halo.
Also, it seems Bburago didn’t have enough information to really make the engine look any good, it’s just a bland block of black plastic, while the interior does look rather nice for a Bburago model, sure it is just a lot of glossy black plastic with a few touches of color, but both the dashboard cluster and the central console display look decent, so what happened with that engine bay I wonder.
All in all, the 1/18 scale Lamborghini Temerario model from Bburago is a nice model for the price, and with three colors being available, you have a choice of which one to add to your collection. I did notice that these are boxed as Maisto in the United States, and unlike previous Lamborghini models from Bburago, not even the Chinese versions have side windows, unfortunately.
